Community Programs
In accordance with the Chapter's Mission, our signature projects are as follows:
Sista To Sista
This continuous program, in collaboration with Hamilton County Public Schools, provides a big sister/mentor relationship with individual chapter members and girls from Howard School of Academics and Technology and Tyner High School. Activities with the "little sisters" have included: college campus tours, preview of the "Jacob Lawrence Art Exhibit" at the Hunter Museum of American Art, Black History "Mahogany Bowl", job shadowing, book club and much more.
Pioneer Women
This awards program recognizes African-American women who charted the course for women, particularly during an era when doors were not open to women of color.
"Reach to the Future" Scholarship
Academic scholarships are awarded to area high school students based on excellence in academics, leadership, and community service.
HIV/Aids Awareness
NCBW collaborates with area doctors and health organizations to provide programs and material pertinent to women and the risk of HIV/AIDS. Our "Is Your Man Putting You At Risk" brochure with statistical data is provided and placed in local doctors' examining rooms.
